CRATE 78s # 96 ON ROY’S RECORD ROOM

Roy’s still knee deep in those crates of 78s so the upcoming RRR will be another 78s from the crates episode – # 96 in this ongoing saga.

There are loads of obscure and familiar love songs on the playlist. Stuff Smith has his jazzy way with “My Blue Heaven”, The Mills Brothers do their all-vocal with guitar thing on “Old Fashioned Love”. Annette Hanshaw does a stellar ‘period’ version of “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” from 1928. Roy’s also dug up a ‘period’ version of “I Only Have Eyes For You” from 1934, performed by the Totem Lodge Orchestra., Obscure love numbers include Smiley Lewis doing “It’s Music”, Chuck Willis with “My Baby’s Coming Home” and a rarely heard number from Ella Fitzgerald – “The Greatest There Is”.

The spin begins Sunday, June 14th, 2 PM, Mountain, on donor supported CKUA Radio. Turn the lights down low and have a listen to more Crate 78s on Roooy’s Record Room, revolving and revealing.
