In early 1989, Roy joined forces with musical pals Shari Ulrich and Bill Henderson for what was to be a one-time get-together at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, a part of the Winter Roots Festival.

The good feeling generated by that first show turned into an occasional collaboration between the three solo artists that would last for many years.

The first UHF album was recorded at Mushroom studios in 1990. Claire Lawrence co-produced the record along with Shari, Bill, and Roy. Rolf Hennemann recorded and mixed the project. The ‘live off the floor’ album introduced such UHF classics as Bill’s “When I Sing”, Shari’s “House Up On The Hill” and Roy’s “Keep Lightin’ That Fire”.

Roy and Bill are on acoustic guitars and vocals. Shari’s on vocals as well as piano, mandolin, fiddle a cello. Bill switches to piano for “Can’t Go Home”.
