78s From The Crates (#64)

This week, on RRR, Roy’s still stuck in 78-crate-land, with an eclectic playlist that includes several artists covering other artists. Lap steel pioneer, Jerry Byrd, covers Leon McAuliffe’s classic “Steel Guitar Rag”. The Maddox Brothers & Rose cover Eddy Arnold’s 1947 hit, “I Couldn’t Believe It Was True”. Elvis Presley covers Gene Autry. An R&B vocal duo, the Teen Queens cover a vocalese original from King Pleasure & Betty Carter. Country star Red Foley covers early rockabilly pioneer, Hardrock Gunter. You’ll also hear classic sides from Hank Williams, T-Bone Walker, Big Bill Broonzy, Red Nichols & His Five Pennies, Annette Hanshaw, and more. All blasting out of the original 78 rpm grooves.

The spin begins this coming Sunday, August 20th, 2 PM, Mountain, on donor supported CKUA Radio. Dial in for a stack of 78s from the crates on Rooooy’s Record Room, the show that feeds the future by honouring the past.
