In 1991, Roy realized a career-long dream by releasing The Human Kind, his country album. The record was recorded at Mushroom Studios over several sessions during 1990 and 1991. Roy was in the producer’s chair once again while Rolf Hennemann recorded and mixed the project.
Musicians on this recording include Chris Nordquist - drums; Laurence Knight - bass; Dan Smith - electric guitar; David Wilkie - mandolin and tenor guitar; Calvin Vollrath - fiddle; John Lacey - pedal steel; and Sue Leonard - harmony vocals.
Roy’s on lead vocals and acoustic guitar. He plays electric guitar on “Still A Fool” and “Let Me Make It Up To You Tonight”.
“Saskatoon Moon” is a duet by Roy and his friend Connie Kaldor.
As well as the songs mentioned above, the album includes such Roy classics as “The Human Kind” and “Your Image Of Me” alongside interpretations of such country standards as Hank Snow’s “(Now And Then There’s) A Fool Such As I”, Don Gibson’s “Just One Time” and Hank Williams’s “Alone And Forsaken”.
The Human Kind
I've been wantin' you all my life You've been nothing but cruel And I'm still a fool Still a fool You've been taunting me all my life You keep riggin' the rules And I'm still a fool Still a fool I told all of my good friends I was gonna take control You gave me that glimpse of a chance Then I was gonna sell my soul You've been haunting me all my life My head knows better But my heart is Still a fool Still a fool I've been sittin' up all night I don't know what's wrong or right I can't figure what I'm gonna do Cos I just can't get my mind off of you You know I'm still a fool

I've been feelin' fairly restless I've been walkin' face down I have heard people laughin' Heard it echo through the town I started out just to please you It seemed an easy way to be But now I'm trapped Inside your image of me I was alone for so long I was hidin' out I saw a face through a window You erased my doubt Now I'm bound, kept from changing I can't get myself free I need deliverance >From your image of me In your image of me I've been keepin' myself hid And I keep losin' track Of the me that really is You have got what you wanted What I thought could never be And when I catch myself believin' In your image of me I know I'm trapped Inside your image of me

You break my heart When you say you won't go You break my heart When you say No, not tonight No, not tonight You say you wanna be By yourself But I know you're gonna be With somebody else Tonight No, not tonight Somebody else will be Holdin' you tight Whispering words The kind that you like But he'll turn around He'll treat you mean And you're gonna wish That you were with me Oh, you break my heart When you say you won't go You break my heart When you say No, not tonight No, not tonight

Baby we had a little quarrel We had ourselves a little fight And if I have to beg or steal or borrow I'll make it up to you tonight All day long I have been thinkin' About a way to make it right Cos, honey, our love boat is sinkin' Let me make it up to you tonight Lovers do what lovers will Life goes up and down Hand in hand we must work until We turn this thing around Think of the love we will be missin' While bitter tears, they blind our sight I just can't live without your kissin' Let me make it up to you tonight

When bad news stumbles out from the phone I get shook, shook right up every time I might slide, lose control I might walk that narrow line But I'll come back, yes I will Cos I'm the human kind When regrets start to work on my feelings Old mistakes come closin' in And make me pine I might hide out for a while But I know I'll come around To work it out, yes I will Cos I'm the human kind When we're talkin' or doin' something, woh woh And I hear you laughin' I feel so full I feel so fine Everything comes so clear And I only know that I I wanna hold you, yes I do Cos I'm the human kind

That Saskatoon moon Is calling to me It rises so bright In my memory I long to see it shine On the river below And walk arm in arm With this sweetheart I know I had to leave Tried to make a new start But how far can you go When you don't have your heart I'd love to hear that meadowlark Sing my favourite prairie tune And hold your hand, dear 'Neath that Saskatoon moon

The words don't come quick like they used to And I find myself searchin' my mind for a phrase And this thing they call living It gets more complicated As the days turn to nights And the nights They turn to days Now I've been a fool on a hilltop And I've fallen face down on that pride killing ground And I've seen some dreams turning into dead fires As the days turn to nights And the nights They turn to days Oh moon Crazy old moon Why are you sinkin' low Oh moon Crazy old moon Why do you hide like a child Who knows he's done wrong The words from our last conversation They just ground to a halt Like a truck out of gas And this thing they call living It gets more complicated As the days turn to nights And the nights They turn to days
